I know this is late but Mr. Needle’s question was not answered. Sam answered the question for the unkown country of “Irag”
So according to the same website I would say that Iraq is the Sunni dominated area.

hey mr. needle!!! i got the answer to ur question in history about Carthage and the elephants. The reason why Hannibal was able to get a hold of elephants was because there WAS such thing as an elephant in Northern Africa in his time. They were called the African Forest Elephant.
“The North African elephant of Hannibal fame was a now-extinct fourth species or a subspecies of the Forest Elephant (Loxodonta (africana) pharaoensis); it disappeared around the 1st or 2nd century CE”
From wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forest_elephant
also look here…

The forest elephants eventually became extinct from overexploitation
