Why do you think Hammurabi’s Code was so strict?

Hammurabi felt he had to write the codes to please his gods, since he did not consider himself a direct descendant of a god. Thus, he made the codes strict to make his “gods” happy???

    (It was worth a try)

Along with what Fabrice said about pleasing the gods, the laws of Hammurabi’s code are black and white for many reasons. They do not allow leeway for excuses or mistakes since the Code was openly displayed for all to see. No man could plead ignorance of the law as an excuse. Since few people could read in this time, it was strictly engraved in stone so no discrepancies could be found.
